On June 10, we had the opportunity to attend the AI & MedTech CEE conference – a meeting of innovators, regulators, and visionaries shaping the future of AI in healthcare across Central and Eastern Europe.

This cross-sector event brought together experts to exchange knowledge, discuss regulations, and present breakthrough technologies supporting the transformation of modern medicine.

A breakthrough in retinal diagnostics

One of the most impressive technologies showcased was CheckEye – an AI-based solution that uses retinal scans to detect diseases at an early stage, especially in diabetic patients. “What’s particularly important is that the test can be performed by someone without medical qualifications – a real breakthrough, especially for crisis-affected regions like Ukraine,” emphasized Fryderyk Janiak, Business Development Manager at Pure Clinical.

10 years of progress in telemedicine

The conference also offered a retrospective look at the development of telemedicine. Łukasz Sosnowski shared valuable insights on how remote medical services have evolved over the past decade, underlining their growing importance for patients and healthcare systems alike.

Ethical and legal challenges of AI deployment

An essential part of the discussions was devoted to the legal and ethical aspects of AI. “The topic of AI governance is becoming increasingly urgent,” said Fryderyk Janiak. “The legal and ethical risks are real – especially when AI is deployed without accountability.”

During the regulatory panels, experts discussed the AI Act and the European Health Data Space (EHDS), emphasizing the need for responsible collaboration between patients, researchers, and industry stakeholders to ensure the safe and transparent development of AI in healthcare.
